Will My Scenic Flight Go Today?
Whether an Airlie Beach scenic flight goes ahead today: who decides, how you are told, rescheduling and refunds, start times, and the November to April cyclone season.
Only the company flying you can say whether today’s flight goes: it checks the weather on the morning and contacts you if it is not suitable. What you control is the day you book. Put the flight on your first or second morning in Airlie Beach, so a weather day can move to the next one. That is how Fly Australia’s Airlie Beach: Whitsunday Islands & Heart Reef Scenic Flight handles it: the flight is moved to a better time or day, and if you cannot make the new one, you get a full refund. From US$240 (checked November 2026).
Free cancellation runs until 24 hours before, and you can reserve now and pay later.
Who decides, and how you hear

The flight company makes the call, on the day. There is no public board showing which flights are going.
- Fly Australia (the calendar above): if the weather is unsuitable, its staff assess it on the day and contact you directly. The flight is rescheduled to a better time or day; if you cannot make it, you get a full refund. Its flight times are estimates that depend on weather, wind, cloud, other air traffic and air traffic control, so a flight may run a little shorter or longer.
- Ocean Rafting's Whitsundays & Heart Reef Scenic Flight and Whitsunday Air Tours' Whitsundays & Great Barrier Reef Scenic Flight: both give free cancellation until 24 hours before, but their GetYourGuide terms set out no weather rule. Ask the company, when you book, what it does on a weather day.
Keep your phone on the morning of the flight, and give a number that works in Australia when you book.
Check the forecast yourself
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Airlie Beach forecast gives the next seven days, with an hourly version for wind and rain. It will not tell you what the pilot will decide, but a week of rain chances is a fair guide to which morning to book, and it carries any weather warnings for the area.
The cyclone season

Australia’s tropical cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April; cyclones outside those months are rare (Bureau of Meteorology, checked November 2026). Flights run all year, and a booking in the season is not a bad booking. It is the season when a spare day in your plans earns its keep.
Start times
Each company flies several times a day, and the times on offer change with the date and the number of seats you ask for. On the dates we read (12 November and 8 December 2026, 12 January 2027):
| Flight | First take-off | Last take-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fly Australia | 7:30 AM | 3:00 PM |
| Ocean Rafting | 7:00 AM | 2:30 PM |
| Whitsunday Air Tours | 8:30 AM | 2:30 PM |
Fly Australia offered one person only its 7:30 AM flight on all three dates, while two people on 12 November could choose from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Pick the date in the calendar with the right number of people to see the real times. An early flight leaves the rest of the day free, and a morning flight that the weather stops still has the afternoon departures after it.
If you are flying out of Whitsunday Coast Airport the same day, read before the flight on leaving enough time between the two.
